Exhibitions

The Exhibitions segment of NABC 2010 will offer an eclectic selection of materials for the viewing pleasure and enjoyment by the Conference attendees. It will showcase works of art by Bengali artists, artifacts and woven materials produced by small-scale enterprises in West Bengal, and posters of breath-taking scenery of tourist spots in the State. It will also have a live show -- with models on stage -- of the historical evolution of the Bengali apparel and accessories, an art workshop with distinguished visiting artists, and a juried art competition by the children of the registrants.

NABC 2010 Exhibitions Inauguration
The formal unveiling of the Exhibitions will be done by the distinguished guests of NABC 2010 at the Exhibitions Lounge in front of Hall C at 5 PM on Friday, July 9. The inauguration will be followed by a reception in the Exhibitions area. This area will have three sets of Exhibits (click here):

  • Paintings by eminent visiting artists:
  •   Paintings by immigrant and next-generation artists of the Bengali Diaspora;
  • Folk Arts from Bengal including Handicrafts , “Banglar Mukh” on Lifestyle , and Textiles;
  • Bengal Tourism.

    The Exhibitions Committee welcomes the children of NABC 2010 registrants to submit items for the Children’s Art Exhibition on the Web :

    The children can also participate in the “Sit and Draw” Juried Art Competition, both of which will be held in the Exhibitions area Saturday, July 10.

The Ramp Show (click here) in the main auditorium will feature the evolution of Bengali clothing and accoutrement over the centuries. It will weave into a rich tapestry the famed muslins produced by the weavers of antiquity, the Middle Eastern clothing brought in by the Muslim conquerors, and the integration of the Western garment – introduced by the Portuguese, British and others – into the Bengali attire by the social progressives like the Bhahmo Samaj. The show will end with a focus on the intermingling of fashions from different parts of India in the modern era.
